2017-Now AVP and CHIEF INFORMATION SECURITY OFFICER, Drexel University
• Serve as a trusted advisor to the CIO, the senior leadership, the Board of Trustees, and the city of Philadelphia on information security and privacy matters.
• Co-lead the Privacy and Security Committee of the University.
• Convene and lead the All-Hands Information Security Team, comprised of dozens of security operations personnel across all central and distributed units of the University.
• Co-lead the HIPAA, US Department of Defense, NHI, GLBA, and PCI compliance efforts of the University.
• Co-lead the GDPR efforts of the University, with a focus on our European programs and the EU citizens interacting with the University.
• Create, design its processes, and lead the Major Incident Response Team: Information Security, Legal, Risk, and Privacy. Work with federal, state, and local law enforcement on cases.
• Craft and shape University policies and procedures for information security, HIPAA, records management, acceptable use, and compliance.
• Envision and execute strategic plans for information security.
• Oversee multi-million dollar implementations of intelligent firewalls and other technologies.
• Build and manage a new information security team and resources: consulting services, vendor assessments, threat analysis, vulnerability management, multi-factor authentication, forensics, cloud computing controls, and awareness and training.
2014-2017 CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER, Association of American Law Schools
• Crafted a strategic plan, assembled a technology team, revamped the infrastructure, and forged strategic relationships with member schools and vendors to deliver secured state-of-the-art web sites, dynamic web applications, mobile applications, cloud communication services, association management system, knowledge management, document management, and a financial system. Created and managed two new revenue-generating projects: online education programs and data analytics.
• Led the information security program: incident response, vulnerability management, assessments, PCI compliance, secure software development, vendor evaluations, privacy and compliance, and policy development.
2009-Now ADJUNCT PROFESSOR, Georgetown University
• Taught Ethics and Technology Management, Ethics and Cybersecurity, Information Security, Capstone, Managing Diverse Organizations, and International Internet Innovation and Policy courses in the Master of Technology Management and other programs. Designed and pioneered the distance learning version of the Master in Technology Management program.
• Taught national information security to government officials in Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, and innovation in Mexico. Taught information security at the URJC Master of Analysis in Spain.
2013-2014 CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER, Southern Connecticut State University
• Prepared a strategic plan, rebuilt a team with over 60 professionals, and contributed to the campus strategic plan and mission with outstanding technology services –information security and privacy, cloud Blackboard LMS, Banner Enterprise Resource Planning ecosystem, wireless services, a new science building and a library renovation- within a large and complex system.’
• As de facto security officer, led incident response, vulnerability management, assessments, PCI compliance, secure software development, vendor evaluations, privacy and compliance, and policy development.
2007-2012 ASSOCIATE VP OF IT AND CIO, Georgetown University
• Identified and deployed emerging technologies in all campuses: business continuity, information security, privacy, building technologies, and communications. Played a leading role in the implementation of a $17M Banner Student system, and Workday Human Resources and Finance Enterprise Resource Planning systems. Founded and served as CIO of the new Center for Transnational Legal Studies in London, UK, a consortium of 24 world-class academic institutions.
• Co-led the hiring of the first University CISO, the writing the information security policies, and the institutional responses to major incidents.
2000-2012 CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER, Georgetown University
• Maximized technology investments and efforts for the 3,000+ faculty, staff and students of the Law Center campus, Wrote and executed two strategic plans with a campus expansion, state-of-the-art communications infrastructure, groundbreaking educational technology innovations, distance learning, websites serving millions of visitors, and administrative services. I led 30 full-time professionals, 20+ part-timers, and many consultants. Technology operations, and the award-winning redesigned data center, received very positive feedback on annual student surveys, accreditation body committee reports, and national media.
• Served as functional CISO, leading incident response, vulnerability management, assessments, PCI compliance, secure software development, vendor evaluations, privacy and compliance, and policy development.
1998-2000 DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. University of Pennsylvania
• Pioneered video streaming, deployed dynamic web sites, revamped network infrastructure and services, reengineered administrative services, and retrofitted 150-year old building for information technology and multimedia purposes for one of the fourteen schools.
