Alejandro Álvarez Macías is a specialist physician in Intensive Care Medicine, currently practicing in the Intensive Care Unit at the Punta Europa Hospital in Algeciras, Spain, which is part of the Andalusian Public Health System (SSPA). Additionally, he serves as the Transplant Coordinator for the Campo de Gibraltar region, also within the SSPA.
He holds a Master’s degree in Emergencies, Disasters, and Humanitarian Action from the University of Seville, and is an instructor for the Advanced Life Support (ALS) course in European Resuscitation Council (ERC) protocols. He has been a faculty member for the Master’s program in Emergencies, Disasters, and Humanitarian Action at the University of Seville (2018-2020), and has been teaching in the Master’s program in Medical Emergencies at the San Pablo CEU University since 2021.
Alejandro has worked as a physician in various high-risk sporting events and has participated as a volunteer physician in numerous humanitarian and disaster relief missions in countries such as Peru, Dominica, the Philippines, and Morocco. Additionally, he serves as a medical advisor on Emergency and Urgency Medicine issues for the Foundation.
His scientific contributions are extensive, with numerous publications in academic and scientific events, as well as in high-impact journals related to Intensive Care Medicine, as well as Emergency, Urgency, and Disaster Medicine.
As a dedicated and highly skilled Intensive Care Specialist, Dr. Álvarez Macías bring a wealth of experience and a proven track record in critical care medicine. With a specialization in Intensive Care, he has excelled in providing top-tier medical care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients in critical condition. In his role as Coordinator of Transplant Programs, he has successfully led multidisciplinary teams, coordinating complex procedures with precision and efficiency. With extensive experience as an Advanced Life Support Instructor, that allows him to mentor and train healthcare professionals, enhancing their skills and preparedness for emergency situations. Alejandro has led numerous international humanitarian missions, where his leadership, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure were crucial in delivering medical aid to those in need. His empathetic approach and ability to work effectively in team settings have been key to Alejandro´s success in these challenging environments. He has demonstrated strong decision-making skills as a Medical Advisor for Grupo Samu, where he provides strategic guidance and oversight, contributing to the company’s healthcare initiatives and operations. His commitment to education is reflected in his roles as Director of the Prehospital Trauma Life Support course in Southern Spain and as an Instructor for the European Resuscitation Council in Advanced Life Support.
